A Message from the PrincipalGood Afternoon! I am wishing all the local Patriots fans a fun-filled evening. May the game be just close enough to provide that excitement but not be a nail biter! There are many events and activities coming up that will be delineated in this newsletter. Be sure to mark your calendars so you can be there. Gentle Reminders: 1. Please do not park on the side streets at pick up time in the afternoon. In an effort to keep the children safe, please use the Kent Street pick up line. It does move quickly. 2. It is cold and flu season. If your child will be out or tardy due to an appointment, please call the office prior to 9:15 AM. Do not send emails to teachers, myself or office staff. The phone is answered beginning at 7:15. It is important that we account for all children promptly. 3. We have a very large negative balance on our school bill to Chartwell's. Please check your My School Bucks account for any negative balances. I am willing to assist with free and reduced lunch status if needed. It is kept confidential. 4. IT IS WINTER IN NEW ENGLAND! Although winter here means cold weather, we all know the benefits of fresh air and exercise to children as well as ourselves! To that end, please be sure your child wears a coat to school, has a hat, mittens and scarf in his/her backpack at all times. I make every effort to send the children outdoors. Our playground is protected by three wings of the school. I do take temperature and wind chill into consideration. Your child brought home a packet with a username and password to create his/her very own online reading log. Make sure to log in with your child this weekend to get started right away. This year our goal is to read 400,000 minutes and raise $20,000 for the school - wow. It’s a lot of reading but HMS students are big readers. We have a LOT of fun prizes this year, including a Sky zone package, Fort Day, books, and of course, the super exciting annual Half Sleepover with Mrs. McGee and Mr. S. Here’s the first incentive for this year’s WhooosReading. Any student who gets 3 or more sponsors by the end of the day on Thursday, Feb 7 and will be entered into a raffle to win the opportunity to Be Principal for a Day. Let’s get reading!
